CHILDREN'S INFORMATION

What is the Refuge?

The refuge is a safe place for mums and kids to come when they have to leave home.  The most important thing for you to remember is that nothing that happened is your fault.

Lots of kids feel scared or nervous when they come here and that's ok, everyone feels that way sometimes.

Everyone has the right to feel safe and that is why your mum has come to stay here.  You might miss your dad while you are in the refuge and that's ok for you to feel that way.

While you are staying here a children's worker will spend some time with you, she is someone you can talk to about what has happened to your family.  She is also someone who you can have some fun with.

The playroom is for everyone to enjoy.  There are some rules about using the playroom like no food or drink in the playroom, clean up after you leave and put things back where you find them.

We would like to make your stay as safe and happy as possible that's why we have made these rules for everyone.

  • If someone knocks at the front door go and get an adult.
  • No one is allowed to hit you and you are not allowed to hit anyone.
  • All meals are to be eaten in the kitchen.
  • It is really important not to tell anyone where the refuge is or who else is staying there.  This is another reason why it is a safe place.
  • Lots of different kids come to stay here and sometimes you might not always get along.  If this happens you can talk to your mum or any of the workers.
